![]() ![]() While the tech is better than it ever was, autosync and beatgrids have no idea what swing and groove or "being in the pocket" even sounds like because they're software with no musical sense or style, and you end up with really loose, sloppy and robotic mixes that don't sound tight. The problem with rigid beatgrids, master tempo and only using auto-sync is you can't adjust the phasing of a mix and beat to handle stuff like heavy swing beats or alternative rhythm signatures. You just need your tracks and the super basic controls used in beatmatching. You don't need Serato, you don't need Rekordbox. Those manual beatmatching skills transfer to vinyl, fully manual CDJs and basically anything that doesn't have a linked sync button where the decks are aware of the tempo of the other deck.Īnd if you have an issue with a prepared USB drive all you need is your music. Sure, I love my sync button, but learning how to beatmatch manually means you can play unprepared files on almost any given DJ rig as long as it has all the basics, and it teaches you how to be a better DJ to use your ears for dealing with phrasing, swing beats and so much more.
